Uploading files and sv_downloadurl
Step 1. Connect over SFTP
Take the host, port, login and password from the FastDL control panel (see Ordering FastDL and credentials) and connect with any file client — FileZilla, WinSCP.
After signing in you'll see the www folder. Everything served to players lives inside it.
Step 2. Mirror the game's folder structure
The contents of www must mirror the game folder's structure on the game server. The game requests a file by the same path it has locally — just from a different address.
| On the game server | On FastDL |
|---|---|
cstrike/maps/de_mymap.bsp | www/maps/de_mymap.bsp |
cstrike/materials/custom/logo.vtf | www/materials/custom/logo.vtf |
cstrike/models/props/box.mdl | www/models/props/box.mdl |
cstrike/sound/ambient/wind.wav | www/sound/ambient/wind.wav |
The game folder's name does not go inside
www. Putmaps/,materials/,models/,sound/directly — withoutcstrike/orcsgo/in front.
Files must be both on the game server and on FastDL. FastDL only speeds up the download; it doesn't replace the server's own files.
Step 3. Set the game server's config
Open cfg/server.cfg on the game server and add:
sv_downloadurl "http://<hash>.fastdl.sourhost.net"
sv_allowdownload 1
sv_allowupload 1
Replace <hash> with the address from your FastDL panel.
Only
http://, and no path at the end.sv_downloadurlmust be exactlyhttp://<hash>.fastdl.sourhost.net— nothttps://, not an address with/www,/mapsor a trailing slash. Other variants won't work.
Step 4. Restart the server and check
Restart the game server so the config applies, then join it from a clean client (with no files already downloaded).
You can check delivery without the game: open a specific file's address in a browser, e.g.
http://<hash>.fastdl.sourhost.net/maps/de_mymap.bsp — the file should start downloading.
If files don't download
| Symptom | Cause |
|---|---|
| The browser returns 404 for a direct file link | The file is at the wrong path — check the structure inside www |
| The file downloads in the browser but not in the game | https://, an extra slash or a path in sv_downloadurl |
| Players still wait a long time | Files aren't packed — see Packing into bz2 and the quota |
| Nothing downloads at all | sv_allowdownload is off or the config didn't apply — restart the server |
